SEAS Band is open to students in fourth through sixth grade and is under the direction of Mrs. Christina Van Heel. Mrs. Van Heel is the director of music with a degree in instrumental music. Previous to her position at SEAS, she was the band director in a local public school system.
SEAS band includes two sections for beginning and intermediate students. Beginning band students do not need previous experience. After one year of band experience or completion of the level one method book, students are eligible to participate in the intermediate band. In the spring, all third grade students are eligible to participate in auditions for the band. They are able to try all of the instruments to determine which are best suited to them. Participating in the band program is an elective and has a fee of $300/year.
All band students have a 25-minute individual or small group lesson during the school day each week. Both sections have a large group lesson after school once each week.
The beginning and intermediate band students give performance in the winter, spring, during the school Talent Show, and for special events in the churches of our parish cluster.
